Rising at the Gonaïves put down by Mont Morency Benjamin
Haitian
On the night of 3 March 1873, Galumette Michel, Jules Legros, John Bonhomme and Fleuriau Jonathas took up arms and for a moment made themselves masters of the place. General Mont Morency Benjamin, commander of the arrondissement, drove them out and made a terrible example by having sixteen of them and several of their accomplices shot without pity. Galumette Michel, John Bonhomme and Fleuriau alone managed to escape into the woods.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Gonaïves (les).
