Port-au-Prince attacked; Borel ransoms inhabitants and flees
Haitian
On 5 April 1793, Santhonax and Polvérel came in their turn, from Saint Marc, to blockade the town. The governor Delassale camped at the Portail Saint Joseph, Beauvais at Bizoton. Blockaded by land and by sea, the town was summoned to surrender: it was attacked on 12 April. Borel extorted ransom from the inhabitants, who gave him 366,000 livres; he left Port-au-Prince, went to Jacmel where he embarked for Jamaica. On the 14th, the civil commissioners entered Port-au-Prince, which was treated as a rebel town.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PORT-AU PRINCE [le].
