Poet André Fouad born in Port-au-Prince

André Fouad was born in Port-au-Prince on 2 May 1972. He is a poet, a diseur — a man who says the poem out loud — and a journalist, and he works mainly in Haitian Creole. His verse lives on the microphone and in the street more than on the library shelf. He has kept giving readings in Port-au-Prince through years when it stopped being safe to gather anywhere in that city. Creole poetry as a public act, said in front of people, in the language they actually think in.
