Petion takes Lassere from the Marquis de Lavalette
Haitian
On 4 June 1803, Pétion took it from the Marquis de Lavalette. There was a French block-house there. Dessalines ordered his soldiers to wage a war of extermination on the whites but to spare the indigènes who assisted them. “They are our brothers,” he said, “sooner or later they will recognize their error.”
Rouzier tells this under the entry LASSERE.
