Pétion leaves Port-au-Prince to meet Christophe at Sibert

Haitian

The 4th and 7th half-brigades, forming Christophe’s vanguard, were advancing. Although he could muster only 3,000 men, Pétion left Port-au-Prince on 1 January 1807, at ten o’clock in the morning, to meet him. He halted at Sibert. All at once Christophe appeared behind him. The republicans were posted on the left bank of a small watercourse, called the river of Sibert or Batardeau, and the Northerners on the right bank.

Rouzier tells this under the entry SIBERT.
