Payment of L 10,000 to the Maunder heirs

Haitian

She estimated that the State owed her L. 142,203, 16 sh., 10 d. Her claim, supported by the English government, gave rise to an exchange between the two governments of a large correspondence and to numerous incidents that it would be idle to enumerate here, the Haitian government having had them published in a pamphlet. Although Joseph Maunder had been born Haitian, and his widow likewise, England sent warships to support her claim. The government of General Salomon finally obtained in April 1837 from Sir Clement Hill, extraordinary envoy of the English government, the faculty of discharging itself on payment of the sum of L. 32,000. This sum was paid for the Maunder heirs as follows: L. 2,000 in cash; 10,000 on 31 December 1887; 10,000 on 31 March 1888; 10,000 on 31 July 1888.

Rouzier tells this under the entry TORTUE (la).
