Murat Saint-Vil was born in Port-au-Prince on 13 September 1955. From 1972 he studied drawing and painting under Préfète Duffaut. He took the Prix Suisse for naïve painting in 1983, and between 1975 and 1985 showed his work in Martinique, Guadeloupe, the United States, Denmark, Curaçao, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, France and England.
