ORDINANCE of the Intendant, on the Sale of Stray nègres

Haitian

The Procureur du Roi represents to you that, having been informed that there was a nègre in the dungeons of the Petite Rivière for a very long time without anyone knowing to whom he belongs; in execution of the Ordinance of M. de Valernod, late Commandant on this Coast, and of yours, Monsieur, issued the first of May last, which orders that nègres found without enslavers be handed over into his hands, he had the said nègre taken from the said dungeon and brought to his home; but as by the said Ordinance you did not rule on the disposition which the Petitioner is to make of the said nègres who may die with him, or return as marrons, and likewise on the payments that will be required to be made, both for the capture of the said nègres and their food, and for their Sale; the Petitioner has recourse to your being pleased, Monsieur, to rule on the above statement for his discharge. Signed DROUILLARD. Having seen the Remonstrance made by the Procureur du Roi at the Royal Seat of Léogane.
