Novelist Nadine Magloire is born in Port-au-Prince
Women
Nadine Magloire was born in Port-au-Prince on this day, daughter of the composer Carmen Brouard and the journalist Jean Magloire. She studied in Haiti, then in Canada and France. In 1968 she published Le mal de vivre, and in 1975 Le sexe mythique, books that wrote about a Haitian woman’s desire and boredom and disgust at a time when respectable literature did not. Critics of the period treated her as a scandal. She died on 25 December 2021, aged 89.
