Northerners’ Fort Picolet fires on the state ship Toussaint-Louverture
Haitian
On 3 and 5 December 1888, Fort Picolet, which the Northerners had armed, fired a cannonball at the State ship the Toussaint-Louverture, which was cruising off the Cap. After 5 or 6 shots the Toussaint-Louverture silenced it, passed within 6 fathoms of the fort and shelled the town; fire broke out in 3 places. For lack of landing troops the government was unable to profit from this success.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PICOLET (le).
