Montmorency Benjamin seizes the Gonaïves by surprise
Haitian
On 7 February 1879, during the insurrection of the Marmelade, General Mentor Nicolas, commandant of the Arrondissement of the Gonaives, was holding at Poteaux to face St.Fleur Paul, when Montmorency Benjamin seized the town of the Gonaives by surprise, entering it by another road; the population turned Benjamin out.
Rouzier tells this under the entry POTEAUX (les).
