Marmelade submits to War Minister Anselme Prophète
Haitian
On 24 January 1889, Marmelade, which had embraced the cause of the Northerners against General Légitime, made its submission to the minister of war, Anselme Prophète, delegate of the government. The Northerners’ minister of war, General Alfred William, was taken prisoner and sent to Port-au-Prince, where he remained in prison. After the rout of General Piquant at Dessalines, Marmelade was evacuated and the government lost all its positions in the North and in the Artibonite.
Rouzier tells this under the entry MARMELADE.
