Résolu. Dominican post evacuated under Morisset’s fire.

The next day the 11th and the 22nd, as well as the other regiments which had not been engaged, asked to storm the post Cachiman. Generals Morisset and Victor Poil, answering the ardor of the troops, made their dispositions. But before they had ordered the army to move, the enemy, on the 22nd, at two o’clock in the afternoon, rained upon the Haitians a hail of round shot and grapeshot from all their positions. The fire of the post Résolu was directed against the division of general Victor Poil, and that of the Cachiman against the advanced post, where a four-pounder had been set up by the chief of the artillery battalion, Renodin. He answered the post Cachiman vigorously. General Morisset, for his part, had set up on an eminence a twelve-pounder dragged by oxen from the Grosse-Roche; he rained round shot and grapeshot on the post Résolu so briskly that the enemy evacuated it. The Dominicans, perceiving that an assault was being prepared against them and that they could not resist, evacuated the post Cachiman as well, in the middle of the night of 22 to 23 July. They abandoned there a four-pounder, which they did not even spike. At daybreak the Haitians entered the Cachiman and raised their flag there.
