Les Cayes. Its citizens address the President against the Riviériste party.

As there was still talk among the public of an impending landing by Rivière Hérard at some point of Haiti, in the Department of the South particularly, the citizens of the Arrondissement of Les Cayes, in sending the President of the Republic an address dated 1 January 1845, did not neglect to speak to him of the ungrateful Riviériste party, which he had saved from massacre and which nevertheless dreams of the return of Rivière Hérard, that lion whose terrible claws and popular roarings leave indelible memories. Rivière Hérard wishes once more, said the Address, “to glut his insatiable love of gold, trampling upon liberty and equality, even at the cost of seeing the country become the prey of the Foreigner.”
