Haiti. Tisserant is named Prefect of the Missions in the island.

In 1843 there had arrived at Port-au-Prince a young priest named Tisserant, of the family of general Bauvais, who was one of the heroes of our wars of liberty in the time of Rigaud, as we already know. The abbé Tisserant was born in France and had been brought up there in the best conditions; he knew neither hidden motive nor guile; as his origins lay in our country, he had met with the most favorable welcome in all the families of Port-au-Prince. He had been named vicar of the parish of which the reverend father Echevaria was the curé; on 31 January 1844 he was named Prefect of the Missions in the island of Haiti by the Sacred Congregation of the Propaganda, by virtue of the decree that follows:
