Bastion Santa Bárbara. Haitian gabions almost touch it.

By 23 March the divisions on the right bank had come within pistol shot of the northern bastions of the place. The gabions set up opposite the bastion of Santa Bárbara almost touched it. To drive our troops from the northern line, General Ferrand had two sixteen-pounders mounted against them on each of the domes of the churches of La Merced and San Francisco; and to harass them on the left bank he placed a battery on the summit of the church of the Jesuits. Although the fire of these three new pieces was as plunging as any could be, it did not shake our troops.
