Le Cap. The festival of Independence is celebrated again

Dessalines then had his generals visit the forts he had raised at Marchand. There were seven of them, set on the southern slope of the mountain that overlooks the town to the north: the forts La Source, Débuté, Culbuté, Décidé, Innocent, Écrasé and La Fin du Monde. Dessalines returned to his palace and dismissed all the officials who had come to attend the solemnity. The generals went back to their respective departments and arrondissements. The ceremony of 1 January 1805 had taken place at the same time at every point of the empire. Christophe, on his return to Le Cap, had it celebrated again on 6 January with the greatest solemnity.
