Dantis Pellé. Dessalines reaches it and looks down on Petit-Goâve.

Dessalines had bought his victory dearly; he had counted 600 men killed and more than 400 wounded. He entered Grand-Goâve, which was now only a heap of ashes. He left it the next day, 2 May (12 Floréal), and reached the Valué plantation, where the enemy had spent the previous night. When he resumed his march, his vanguard, composed of two battalions of the 4th, was assailed by fire from a camp set on the summit of a morne that commanded the highroad. Colonel Dommage dashed at the enemy and scattered them into the woods. The same day Dessalines reached the Dantis Pellé plantation, from which he looked down on Petit-Goâve. A large body of cavalry formed his rearguard; the successes he had won since the capture of Jacmel had kindled a true enthusiasm in his army; everyone was eager to see so bloody a war come to an end.
