Le Cap. The Festival of National Victories is celebrated; Sonthonax presents the Directory’s arms to Toussaint, Léveillé and Pierre Michel.

The civil commission had the Festival of National Victories celebrated with pomp at Le Cap (9 January). The whole army took up arms, the whole people covered the parade ground, and amid the solemn roar of the cannon Sonthonax, standing on the altar of the fatherland, embraced Toussaint and gave him the magnificent saber of honor and the pair of pistols that the Executive Directory had sent him in reward for his good conduct on the day of 30 Ventôse. In the same ceremony Generals Léveillé and Pierre Michel each received a fine saber as well.
