Paris. Festival of abolition in the Temple of Reason.

After a speech by Chaumette on the horrors of slavery, the council decided that on 30 Pluviôse (18 February) the abolition of slavery would be celebrated in the Temple of Reason, that the Rights of Man would be read there, and that the hymns of liberty would be sung there. On the appointed day the people of Paris, the constituted authorities, the electoral body, the sections, the popular societies, and the civil and revolutionary committees assembled in the Temple of Reason. “The throng was immense.
