Palos. Columbus sails from it with three caravels.

On 30 April 1492, Ferdinand and Isabella gave him a commission by which he was named admiral and viceroy of the islands and of the mainland he should discover. On the 3rd of August following, he sailed from Palos with three caravels, laden with provisions for a year, and with 120 men. Three days later he stopped at Grand Canary and made some repairs to his ships there. On 6 September he put to sea again.
