Law opens the port of Aquin to foreign trade

Haitian

The island of Grosse-Caye is situated opposite the bay of Aquin, and the point of Morne-Rouge lies to the south. The port was opened to foreign commerce by the law of 21 April 1807. The law of 17 December 1808 closed it. On the representations made by General Vaval, commander of the arrondissement, in the name of his fellow citizens, it was opened again to foreign commerce by the law of 4 September 1812. Closed again to national and foreign long-voyage vessels by the law of 25 April 1826, from the following 1 July, it was reopened by the law of 20 September 1831. On 27 September 1836 a new law came and closed it again. Since 1843 it has remained definitively open to foreign commerce. Each time a law pronounced the closing of this port, the territory of Aquin returned to the administration of the Cayes.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Aquin.
