Law creates a company of Gendarmerie at Pilate

Haitian

In 1793, the work gangs of Pilate, misled by the royalist colonists, took up arms at the proclamation of the general freedom of the enslaved of the North. They assailed Antoine Chanlatte, whom Santhonax managed to extricate. On 2 August 1802, Pilate, with the Escalier, the Branle and the Mapou, and the heights of the Borgne and of Limbé, rose in insurrection against the French. The band leader Macaya occupied the Pilate road. Pétion surprised Sans-Souci at Pilate and dispersed his band; he spared the lives of several of his prisoners and favored the escape of a great number. A company of Gendarmerie was created by the law of 10 September 1890.

Rouzier tells this under the entry PILATE.
