Lapointe raises the plantations of Arcahaie
History. On 22 March 1792 Lapointe, a man of color, raised the work gangs of l’Arcahaie against the French, from the halt of Aubry to the extremity of les Vases. The rebels soon entered the bourg, killing most of the members of the municipality who were deliberating on the means to take to rid themselves of the men of color. They killed and plundered everything, sparing only two houses belonging to enslavers whom they called good whites. Borel, mayor of Port-au-Prince, to avenge the massacre of the whites of l’Arcahaie by the Blacks, directed against this bourg a troop commanded by Canteloup, an implacable enemy of the affranchis. Lapointe had Canteloup arrested and put him back on board ship with his regiment for Port-au-Prince.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Arcahaie (l’).
