Jean-Claude Fignolé was born in Jérémie on 24 May 1941. With Frankétienne and René Philoctète he founded spiralisme, the Haitian literary movement that broke the straight line of the novel and wrote in spirals, refusing the shape the French language expected. His books include Les Possédés de la pleine lune and Aube tranquille. He was also a political man and served his commune in the Grand’Anse. He died on 11 July 2017 at seventy-six.
