Haitians proclaim independence at Gonaïves
Haitian
On 1 January 1804 the Haitians of the French part proclaimed their independence on the Place d’Armes of the Gonaïves, at the foot of the tree of Liberty, and upon the altar of the Fatherland.
Rouzier tells this under the entry HAÏTI: the general article.
