Haitian army crosses the Punale mountains

Haitian

PUNALE. River and mountain of the province of the Véga. Former rural section of the commune of Santiago. In 1840 it produced tobacco, coffee, sugar cane and food crops. On 27 February 1805 at 8 o’clock in the evening, the Haitian army, marching against Sto Domingo, after having driven Serapio from the banks of the Yague, took Santiago, and halted on the banks of the river Pûnale. On the 28th it arrived at the Vega at 8 o’clock in the morning. On 4 March it crossed the Punale mountains.

Rouzier tells this under the entry PUNALE.
