Haiti confirms its first case of cholera in more than a century

On 21 October 2010 the Ministry of Public Health and Population confirmed Haiti’s first cholera case in over a hundred years. The outbreak began in the rural Centre department, about 100 km north of Port-au-Prince. Within ten weeks it had reached all ten departments.
