Gunmen kill Father Jean-Marie Vincent outside his order’s house at Turgeau

Father Jean-Marie Vincent was shot dead by unidentified men on 28 August 1994, near the Saint-Louis Roi-de-France church at Turgeau. A Montfortain priest, he was a leading voice of liberation theology in Haiti, director of the Haitian Foundation for Economic and Social Development and a co-founder of Fonkoze, the bank built for the organised poor. He was the first priest killed since the 1991 coup. No one was ever caught.
