Grand-Gosier chief orders the Dominican road works suspended
In July 1910, the Dominican government, following the plan of President Gomez, decided to open a military road 6 feet wide, of easy access for the traffic of the frontier guard, so as to be able to exercise effective surveillance of smuggling on the Pedernales river by following the eastern bank of this river as far as lake del Fondo, where the second frontier is found. The road was to cross Boucan Patate, Tête-à-l’Eau, Bois Tombé, Haitian territory, and enter the plain of the Cul-de-Sac. The road had been under construction since that date, without any difficulty, until 14 December, when the communal chief of Grand-Gosier, on the pretext that some sections of this jurisdiction had been invaded, informed the chief of the frontier guard that he had to suspend these works in order to avoid a rupture of the good relations existing between the two governments.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PEDERNALES.
