General Victorin Chevalier executed at the foot of Fort Bizoton

After the triumph of the revolution of the Cacos, General Victorin Chevalier, who had been Salnave’s minister of war and had betrayed him by making common cause with the Cacos of Jacmel, after having done much harm to those of Gonaïves, was executed and buried on 28 December 1869 at the foot of Fort Bizoton. His grave can still be seen there when passing along the main road.
