General d’Henin enters Mirebalais in ashes

Haitian

On 4 March 1802, General d’Henin, who commanded the vanguard of the Boudet division, after taking the Trianon, entered Mirebalais, which he found in ashes. Three hundred corpses of white colonists lay on the ground on the habitation Chirry or Chitrie: the whole countryside was in flames, and the French columns marched only through smoking ruins and pools of blood. The Boudet division made for Verrettes.

Rouzier tells this under the entry MIREBALAIS (le).
