D’Henin enters Mirebalais
On 3 March 1802, the advance guard of the Boudet division, which was going from Port Républicain to Mirebalais, reached the post of Trianon, which was held by a hundred cultivators of Mirebalais commanded by Pierre Paul, a Black man. To avoid the ambushes that had been set along his route, General d’Henin turned the heights of the position and penetrated into the gorges of Trianon. As soon as the cultivators saw the enemy, they struck up songs and rushed upon two cannon vomiting grapeshot upon the redoubt; they came to expire upon the cannon, cut down by the French musketry. The French, bayonets forward, penetrated into the redoubt and slaughtered all those whom they could reach. General d’Henin lost 60 grenadiers in this affair. He entered Mirebalais on 4 March.
Rouzier tells this under the entry TRIANON.
