General Charles Roland inaugurates the commune of Les Roseaux
In 1869 President Salnave took from the inhabitants of the Roseaux 200 sacks of coffee to pay the costs of the war against the Cacos. Brice went to attack him there in April, and drove him out. In June 1890 a bill in the Chamber proposed to erect this quartier into a commune of the 5th class. The Minister of the Interior, Saint M. Dupuy, opposed this bill. In 1909 this quartier was erected into a commune [law of 26 August 1909]. The inauguration of this commune took place on Sunday 24 October 1909, by General Charles Roland, delegate of the government in the arrondissements of the Grand’Anse and of Tiburon, amid a great gathering of citizens from the other communes of the arrondissement of the Grande Anse.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PETIT TROU des ROSEAUX (le) ou les ROSEAUX.
