Geffrard dies at Les Cayes

Haitian

On 31 May 1806, seized with violent colic, he breathed his last at the Cayes. The rumor ran at once that he had been poisoned at the instigation of Jacques I, against whom he was planning an uprising, but proof of the fact has never been had. Many affirm that he died of an abscess formed in the stomach following a fall from a horse that he had taken at the Platons. He was only 45 years old. He was buried in the citadel of the Platons. His entrails were deposited in the center of the parade ground of the Cayes, a short distance east of the tree of liberty.

Rouzier tells this under the entry PERIGNY.
