Gangs break open the two biggest prisons in the country
Haitian
Gangs under Jimmy Cherizier had spent the week attacking the airport and the police academy and killing officers. On this day they hit the National Penitentiary in Port-au-Prince and the prison at Croix-des-Bouquets. Roughly 4,600 of some 4,900 inmates walked out. Bodies lay in the streets around the penitentiary the next morning. Prime minister Ariel Henry was abroad at the time, in Nairobi, signing papers for the Kenyan police force he wanted sent to save him. He never got back into the country.
