French under Boudet checked at Place Vallière

Haitian

On 5 February 1802, at the landing of the French army at the Lamentin, after taking from Lamatinière the fort of Léogane (Lerebours), the column of General Boudet entered the town; but as it advanced along the grand’rue it was suddenly halted by a formidable volley from the 3rd colonial, which occupied the Place Vallière. The French rushed upon them; it fell back to Fort Saint Joseph (Lamarre).

Rouzier tells this under the entry PLACE VALLIERE (la).
