French take Port-de-Paix from Capoix

Haitian

On 8 January 1803, when the French took Port-de-Paix from Capoix, he betook himself to the Laveaux Lapointe habitation, where on the following day several vessels came to cannonade. Capoix had a battery set up on the shore and answered the enemy’s fire with red-hot shot. The vessels withdrew, making for the channel of the Tortue.

Rouzier tells this under the entry LAVEAUX-LAPOINTE.
