French ships bombard Fort Ça-Ira and troops land at L’Acul; Sanglaou driven from the fort
Haitian
On 22 December, at daybreak, the frigate Franchise, the brig Lodi and the schooners Tricolore and Nanine, loaded with European troops commanded by the ship’s Captain Jurrieu, moored broadside before the fort and opened a lively and deadly fire, while the troops landed at l’Acul, a cove situated not far from the fort. At the same time, the French garrison of Léogane, under the orders of Laucoste, made a sortie against Sanglaou and Gérin by the road that leads to the seashore. The indigènes were routed on all sides, and Sanglaou driven from the fort.
Rouzier tells this under the entry Ça-Ira.
