French losses and Leclerc’s fall at the Crête-à-Pierrot

Haitian

Boudet had lost 600 men, and General Dugua, wounded by two bullets, had just left 300 on the field of battle. Cotereau, a black captain, took a great number of white prisoners, who were immediately killed with bayonet thrusts. During the rout Leclerc received a contusion in the lower belly that shook him so much that he was thrown down; he would have been sabered by the indigenous dragoons had the squadron chief Dalton not carried him on his shoulders far from the melee.

Rouzier tells this under the entry Crête-à-Pierrot (la).
