Foundation act of the cathedral signed

Haitian

In the year of the Lord 1888, on 4 March, the 3rd Sunday of Lent, under the pontificate of Our Most Holy Father Pope Leo XIII. Monsignor Constant Hillion being Archbishop of Cap Haïtien, and His Excellency General Salomon being President of Haiti. François Xavier Rio, missionary of the Company of Mary, parish priest of this parish and vicar general, in the presence of the clergy and of a considerable crowd of the faithful, blessed and solemnly laid in the foundations the first stone of this cathedral church, which will rise to the glory of the God most good and most great, in honor of the Virgin Mary of God, conceived without sin, under the secondary patronage of the holy Apostles Peter and Paul. May God grant us the grace to bring the work begun to a good end. Amen.” Patron saint’s feast on 8 December.

Rouzier tells this under the entry PORT-DE-PAIX (le).
