Émile Ollivier dies in Montreal with his last novel unfinished

Émile Ollivier died suddenly in Montreal on 10 November 2002 while finishing a novel. Born in Port-au-Prince on 19 February 1940, he was exiled in 1964 under François Duvalier and taught for twenty-five years at the Université de Montréal. He wrote Mère-Solitude, Passages, Les Urnes scellées and the memoir Mille Eaux. La Brûlerie appeared after his death. He was a Chevalier of the Ordre national du Québec.
