Dieudonne Cedor is born at Anse-a-Veau and paints the people who work

Haitian

Dieudonne Cedor was born at Anse-a-Veau on this day. He trained as a cabinetmaker, then walked into the Centre d’Art in Port-au-Prince in December 1947 and learned to paint under Rigaud Benoit. In 1950 he broke away with Rene Exume, Lucien Price and Max Pinchinat to found the Foyer des Arts Plastiques, because the Centre was selling naive Haiti to foreigners and they wanted to paint the country as it was. In 1956 he helped start the Galerie Brochette with Luckner Lazard and Roland Dorcely. Named director of the Musee des Beaux-Arts in 1957, he resigned twenty-four hours later. He died at Carrefour on 27 September 2010.
