Desfourneaux enters Plaisance unopposed
Haitian
On 18 February 1802 General Desfourneaux, dispatched by Captain General Leclerc from le Cap against Toussaint Louverture at the Gonaives, came to establish himself near Plaisance. The commander of this bourg, Pierre Dumesvil, a Black officer, instead of giving everything to the flames at the approach of the French, as Toussaint’s instructions required, came out to meet General Leclerc with 300 infantrymen and 200 horsemen, and made his submission to him. The next day Desfourneaux entered Plaisance without striking a blow.
Rouzier tells this under the entry PLAISANCE.
