DECREE of the Conseil of the Cap, for the safety of the Executioner of High Justice
SEEN by the Conseil the Remonstrance of the Procureur Général du Roi in the Court, stating that the mob and the nègres who follow the Criminals led to punishment, and the Executioner of High Justice, have for a long time taken it upon themselves to escort that same Executioner back, after the execution is finished, from the public Square to Prison, and to assault him, on the way, with stones; that this license and excess are even carried to the point that the stones, hurled from all sides, sometimes fly into the neighboring shops. FOR THESE CAUSES, &C.: THE COURT has made the most express prohibitions and bans to all persons, enslaved or free, to insult or attack the Executioner of High Justice, whether in fact, with stones or otherwise, or even in words, either at that moment or after the execution.
