Dany Laferrière is born in Port-au-Prince

Windsor Klébert Laferrière fils was born in Port-au-Prince on 13 April 1953. He worked as a journalist in Haiti, then left for Montreal in 1976. His first novel, Comment faire l’amour avec un nègre sans se fatiguer, appeared in 1985 and made him famous overnight. He writes, paints and makes films, and lives between Montreal and Paris. On 12 December 2013 he was elected to seat 2 of the Académie française; he took his place under the Coupole on 28 May 2015, the first Haitian ever to enter the institution Richelieu founded in 1635.
