Columbus waits out heavy rain and a north wind in the harbor
Haitian
There in that harbor it rained heavily on them, with a very strong north wind: the harbor is safe from all winds except the north, although even that cannot do it any harm, because the undertow is great, so that it does not let the ship work on her cables, nor does the water of the river. After midnight the wind went round to the northeast and then to the east, from which winds that harbor is well sheltered by the island of la Tortuga, which lies opposite 36 miles away.
