Columbus climbs Santo Cerro and plants the first cross in America
Haitian
SANTO CERRO. Hamlet and mountain of the province of La Vega, Dominican Republic, famous for the celebrated miracle of the Cross that took place in 1514. Its church is continually visited by numerous pilgrims. The mountain of Santo Cerro stands two hundred and forty metres above sea level and one hundred and fifty metres above the plain of the Vega Real. Christopher Columbus climbed it with his companions in 1493. The view there is so beautiful that he planted the first cross in America there and gave the plain the name of the Vega Real.
Rouzier tells this under the entry SANTO CERRO.
