c. AD 1400 – 1500: The MC-6 site on Middle Caicos is unique for its architectural features, including stone-lined pit structures that were initially interpreted as semi-pit houses. Despite repeated excavations between 1977 and 2010, the exact functional nature of these eight pits remains a subject of archaeological debate. The site also features a physical road that connects the central plaza directly to Armstrong Pond, suggesting a high level of planned infrastructure. This internal connectivity, combined with the leveling of the central court using imported marl, demonstrates a sophisticated communal effort to organize ritual and social space.
