c. AD 1220 – 1640: The Los Buchillones site in Cuba serves as an exceptional case study in cultural diversity during the Late Ceramic Age. This coastal settlement is remarkable for its preservation of organic materials, including wooden artifacts and structural remains, found during both dry-land and underwater excavations. Radiocarbon dates indicate a long-term occupation that spanned the transition from the pre-contact era into the early colonial period. The site’s material record suggests a unique local adaptation that does not fit neatly into traditional ceramic categories. Researchers view Los Buchillones as evidence of the “vibrant” and heterogeneous nature of indigenous life in the central Antilles.
